Marco Robledo, a disabled combat veteran and federal employee, speaks at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division’s combined observance for National Hispanic Heritage Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month in West Bethesda, Md., Oct. 12, 2017, with his service dog, Chuck Diesel. Robledo was wounded by an improvised explosive device while deployed to Iraq as a combat engineer with the National Guard in 2007. After he rehabilitated from his injuries, he followed a mentor’s advice and applied to work at Carderock as a contract specialist. He spoke about being grateful for his fellow Soldiers who saved his life and about overcoming his challenges and making a good life for himself following his upbringing by struggling migrant workers.
