CMDCM (SS/SW/AW) Leonard Anderson, USN

Command Master Chief, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF)

Master Chief Leonard Anderson is a native of the San Francisco Bay area growing up in Oakland, Calif. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy July 2, 1996 as a Machinist Mate (conventional).

Following Recruit Training Command, he attended Engineering Common/Mechanical Core “A” school at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Upon completion of his duties in the surface fleet, he volunteered for submarine service and reclassified into the submarine weapons community as a Torpedoman (TM). In February 2002, Master Chief Anderson attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School and the Submarine-Launched Weapons Course in Groton, Conn.

Master Chief Anderson’s sea duty assignments have spanned throughout the surface, submarine and aviation fleets where he has completed eight Western Pacific deployments, three Southern Command deployments and several humanitarian and drug interdiction missions. He served aboard USS Sacramento (AOE 1), USS Portsmouth (SSN 707), USS Greenville (SSN 772), USS Texas (SSN 775) and USS Buffalo (SSN 715). He was Chief of the Boat aboard USS Asheville (SSN 758) and USS Columbus (SSN 762). He served as Command Master Chief of Airborne Command & Control Squadron 116 in Point Mugu, Calif. and frequently embarked USS Nimitz (CVN 68).

His shore duty assignments include Navy Recruiting District San Francisco (Navy Recruiting Station Fairfield, Calif.) where he was a Recruiter-in-Charge and Assistant Zone Supervisor; Submarine Force Torpedoman for Commander, Submarine Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Tactical Readiness Evaluation (TRE) Team weapons advisor; U.S. Pacific Fleet Force Protection/Anti-Terrorism Assessment Advisor; and Assistant Material Assessment Coordinator for the forward-deployed submarine tenders.

He graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 182) with Honors in September 2014 and the Navy Leadership and Ethics Center courses of instruction (CMC/COB course) at the Naval War College in April 2016.

In May 2021, Master Chief Anderson assumed duties as Command Master Chief of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, the largest industrial employer in the State of Hawaii, where advises the shipyard commander and leads more than 500 Sailors.

Master Chief Anderson’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (ten awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Expert Rifle and Pistol Medals, Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various campaign and unit awards.
