Senior Chief Justin D. Sherman

Senior Enlisted Advisor, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility

Senior Chief Electronics Technician Justin D. Sherman, a native of Poway, California, enlisted in the Navy Feb. 10, 1998.

Sherman attended Electronics Technician “A” school in Great lakes, Illinois, and his first duty assignment was on USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53). He was in Fifth Fleet on Sept. 11, 2001, and deployed to Afghanistan as part of the initial efforts of Operation Enduring Freedom, which resulted in him earning Junior Sailor of the Year.  After serving aboard USS Higgins (DDG 76) he was assigned to Fleet Training Center Pacific, Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment West, earning his Master Training Specialist designation.  He also took part in pre-commissioning USS Freedom (LCS 1), the U.S. Navy’s first Littoral Combat Ship, and was assigned instructor duty at Naval Air Technical Training Center. Aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) he served as Combat Systems Department Leading Chief Petty Officer, the ship’s Anti-Terrorism Watch Officer and the Surface Watch stander in the Combat Direction Center during Nimitz’ Fifth Fleet deployment.

Sherman has a Journeyman’s license in Electronic Mechanics and Internetworking Technician. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and has earned associates degrees from Central Texas College and Excelsior College respectively. He has also earned a Bachelor of Science in Electronics from Southern Illinois University.

His awards and decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (two awards), and commands he has served with earned the Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Battle E ribbon.
