CMDCM (SS) Armon D. Owens, USN

Command Master Chief, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF)

Master Chief Owens was raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  He enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program in July, 1997 and completed Basic Training in Great Lakes, IL.  He next graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Electronics Technician “A” school, both in Groton, CT.

In 1998, he reported to his first boat USS Oklahoma City (SSN-723) in Norfolk, VA where he served as a member of Navigation Division where he completed two North Atlantic deployments, one CENTCOM deployment and one SOUTHCOM deployment.  After a six-year tour, Master Chief Owens reported to shore duty on the operational staff of COMNAVSUBFOR in Norfolk, VA.

From 2003 to 2006 Master Chief Owens served as the OPCON LPO for COMNAVSUBFOR and was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in July 2006.

In 2006, Master Chief Owens transferred to Electronics Technician “C” school in Groton, CT. After graduating with honors, he transferred to the USS Boise (SSN-764) as the Navigation Division Leading Chief and Assistant Navigator.  After six years and three North Atlantic deployments the USS Boise was awarded the Battenburg Cup for top warship in the Atlantic Fleet. In 2012, he completed the qualifications for Chief of the Boat and was advanced to Senior Chief.

In 2012, Master Chief Owens was screened and selected to serve on staff as the ISIC Assistant Navigator for Submarine Squadron Six.  After being advanced to Master Chief in 2014, he served as the Staff Master Chief for the Squadron 6 Support Staff until 2015.

In December 2015, Master Chief Owens reported as the Chief of the Boat for the USS HELENA (SSN-725).  During his time onboard, the command completed its first ever North Atlantic deployment and earned HELENA’s first ever Battle “E” awards for Submarine Squadron SIX (2015 and 2017).  His CPO Mess was awarded the William H Reader award for top CPO quarters in Squadron SIX.  HELENA was also awarded the 2017 Retention Excellence Award.

Master Chief Owens is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 191, Purple). His personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards) and numerous unit and campaign awards.
