Commander Aaron Coudray is a native of Minnetonka, Minnesota. He graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering in 2002. Upon graduation, he attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, where he was commissioned as a Submarine Officer.
He qualified as a submarine warfare officer aboard USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 735)(GOLD) where he served as the Damage Control Assistant, Communications Officer and Diving Officer. Following his initial sea tour, he attended Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Masters of Science in Information Technology Management.
He second submarine tour was aboard the USS MICHIGAN (SSGN 727)(GOLD) as the Navigator and Operations Officer, where he completed three western Pacific deployments. Subsequent to his department head tour, he served as the initial crew Engineer Officer aboard PCU JOHN WARNER (SSN 785), as well as the Executive Officer. It was during this tour that he selected to the Engineering Duty Officer Community.
Upon selection to the Engineering Duty Officer Community in 2014, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering and was awarded the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Award in Electronic Systems Engineering. He completed his qualifications as an Engineering Duty Officer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, where served as the Deputy Project Superintendent for the USS DALLAS (SSN 700) Inactivation Availability, the USS MAINE (SSBN 741) engineered refueling overhaul, and the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) Docking Planned Incremental Availability. He took over as the Officer-in-Charge of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Detachment Everett in August 2019.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (one award), the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards). He is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community with Level III certification in Production Quality Management. He and his wife Whitney have two children: a six year old son named Elijah and a three year old daughter named Chloe.
