Captain Robert D. Figgs, USN

Commanding Officer, Trident Refit Facility

Hailing from Kaneohe, Hawaii, Captain Robert D. Figgs enlisted in the Navy immediately following high school graduation in 1984. After initial technical and basic submarine training he was assigned as a Navigation Electronics Technician aboard USS Grayling (SSN 646) based in Charleston, South Carolina, and then Vallejo, California. He was commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1994, graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.


His sea tours included assignments as Division Officer, USS Indianapolis (SSN 697), Engineer Officer, USS Buffalo (SSN 715), and Executive Officer, USS Maine (SSBN 741). He commanded USS Louisville (SSN 724) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where his team earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation for their efforts on a western pacific deployment.


His shore assignments include duty on the staff of Commander, Submarine Forces Pacific as a Command Center Watch Officer, Local Operations Officer (CTG 14.5) and Force Radiological Controls Officer. He served as Deputy Director for U.S. Strategic Command Special Activities Pacific (CTF 134), Deputy Commander Submarine Squadron One and Assistant Chief of Staff, Director for Training and Readiness (N7) on the staff of Commander U.S. Naval Forces Europe/Africa and U.S. Sixth Fleet.

 

Captain Figgs’ personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (two), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (five), the Navy Achievement Medal (two), and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (two).


Captain Figgs resides in Bangor, Washington and is married to former Laurie Ann Goo of Honolulu, Hawaii. They have two sons Bobby, and Michael, both
