Captain R. Trevor King, USN

Chief of Staff for the Deputy Commander for Ship Maintenance and Modernization

Captain Trevor King graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1991 with a B.S. in Economics and calls Spring Grove, Illinois, his hometown. He is currently assigned in Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), in Washington, D.C., to the Deputy Commander, Ship Maintenance and Modernization (SEA 21), as the Chief of Staff.

At-Sea, he served as Commanding Officer in USS MILIUS (DDG 69); Executive Officer in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89); Commissioning Commanding Officer in USS TORNADO (PC 14); Operations Officer in USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56); Navigator and Commissioning Communications Officer in USS VICKSBURG (CG 69).

Ashore, he served in Washington, D.C, in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), Surface Warfare Division (N96), as the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and LCS Mission Packages Requirements Officer; in the Naval Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) as the Surface Combatant, Amphibious and Sealift Programs Officer. He worked on Capitol Hill as the Legislative Fellow to Senator Trent Lott (R-Mississippi). His Joint assignment was to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) including service as a Program Integrator, Sea Based Missile Defense, Executive Assistant to the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Technical Director, and Executive Assistant to the Program Director, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (Aegis BMD) program directorate (PD 452). He has also been assigned as a recruiter to the United States Naval Academy (USNA) as a Regional Director of Admissions for the Central United States.

Upon transitioning to the Surface Warfare Officer Acquisition Corps (SWO-AC) in 2013, CAPT King served in the LCS Program Office (PMS 501) as the Assistant Project Manager for Future Upgrades, Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Science and Technology (S&T) and eventually as the Chief of Staff. He was a core team member of the Small Surface Combatant Task Force (SSCTF) to consider alternative proposals to procure a “more capable and lethal small surface combatant generally consistent with the capabilities of a frigate”. His Major Command assignment was at PEO IWS 4.0 as the Major Program Manager, International Programs and FMS. He served as the Chief Engineer and Director, Program Management, at Navy Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Headquarters.

Captain King’s advanced education includes Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) via the Naval War College Non-Resident Seminar and he earned a Master’s Degree in National Security Strategy (NSS) from the National War College in Washington, D.C.

He is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and is certified Level III in Program Management with course work at the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) and senior leader seminar participation at University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. His personal awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (7 awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit awards.
