Capt. Brian D. Lawrence was born and raised in Toronto, Ohio. He is a 1994 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and was commissioned as a Special Operations Officer.
Following graduation, Capt. Lawrence was assigned to the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Fla., for Diving Officer, Salvage Officer, and Mixed Gas Diving Training. Following graduation from dive training, Capt. Lawrence reported aboard USS SANTA BARBARA (AE 28) in Charleston, S.C. He completed tours as Deck Division Officer and Electrical Officer. Upon completion, Capt. Lawrence served as a Project Manager at SPAWARSYSCEN in Charleston, S.C. In June 2000, Capt. Lawrence earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
Follow-on waterfront assignments included Assistant Project Superintendent for the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72), USS PARCHE (SSN 683), Project Superintendent for SEA SHADOW (IX-529), and duties as Regional Diving Officer for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Capt. Lawrence was then assigned to Washington D.C., at Naval Sea Systems Command in the office of the Supervisor for Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV). He was assigned as Program Manager and Salvage Engineer on various projects, including the reefing of the former EX-Oriskany (CV-34). He also completed a staff tour as an action officer, Fleet Readiness Division (OPNAV N43) in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington. In October 2008, he reported to Supervisor of Shipbuilding Gulf Coast as Program Management Representative (PMR) for the DDG 51 program and Large Deck Amphibious Program (LHA 6). In 2014, Capt. Lawrence was selected to be the Waterfront Operations Officer (WFO) at Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) in Mayport, Fla. In October of 2014, Capt. Lawrence assumed his current duties as Executive Officer and Deputy Supervisor for Operations at Supervisor of Shipbuilding Gulf Coast. In December of 2016, CAPT Brian Lawrence was selected to be the sixth Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Gulf Coast. He assumed command as Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Gulf Coast on 31 March 2017.
Capt. Lawrence has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (5 Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 Awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 Awards), in addition to numerous campaign and unit awards.
