Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR)

The mission of Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) is to provide quality support and recreational services that contribute to the retention, readiness, mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our Sailors.
     MWR programs and facilities are open to all authorized patrons. Some patrons (DOD civilians and contractors) must purchase a membership card to use MWR programs and facilities (except the Fitness Center). Contact your nearest MWR facility for further information.

Auto Skills Center

     The center focuses on do-it yourself repairs. Use one of the bays to fix your vehicle, assistance and guidance is always available while working on your own vehicle. You may also make an appointment to have a mechanic do the repairs for you.

     Join a league, plan a party for your command, schedule a birthday party or just come by for bowling and “Extreme Bowling.” Enjoy something to eat at the Xtreme Bar and Grill after you bowl!

CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAMS
Child Development Center (CDC)

Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
     The Child Development Center provides high quality developmentally appropriate curriculum for children six weeks to five years old. An age appropriate educational and physical curriculum is offered by a highly qualified staff. The staff has background checks and receives regular training according to Navy standards. Full-time care is available for family members of active duty military, DOD and contractors, as space is available.

Youth Center - Boys & Girls Club and 4-H Club

     The center provides supervised care for children kindergarten through age 14.
Care is offered before and after school, school vacations and summer day camp. Adolescents and older teens are offered age appropriate programs to learn life skills, the arts, fitness and creativity through the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Power Hour, Torch Club, Job Ready and Image Makers Photography program, as well as, numerous 4-H Club programs. Care is available for children of active duty, DOD and contractors.

Child Development Home (CDH)

     The CDH program offers high quality home-based care for children by Navy certified childcare providers who live in military housing. Care is provided full or part-time, hourly, overnight, mildly ill and those with special needs.
Hourly childcare is offered by the Child and Youth Programs to support families who have an occasional need for childcare. Space for care may be made up to 30 days in advance.

     Enjoy home cooked food. For breakfast it’s cinnamon rolls, breakfast pastries, sandwiches, and muffins. For lunch it’s soups, chowders, chili, pizza, hot sandwiches, salads and a large variety of cold subs. Tasty home-made desserts! 

JoJo’s Take Out

     JoJo’s offers breakfast pastries, muffins and a variety of sandwiches and salads for lunch. Lasagne, meatball subs and beef stew are just a few of the daily specials.

     Enjoy Tirante’s signature hearty breakfasts or your choice of omelettes and breakfast pastries. During lunch, choose from Tirante’s daily specials or choose from the regular menu for sandwiches, soups, chowders and salads. Make room for their excellent desserts.

     Take advantage of the daily specials, subs, sandwiches, sandwiches from the grill, a large selection of side orders, salads and ice cream. Eat in or take out. Located in the Bowling Center.

FITNESS FACILITIES
Fletcher Fitness Center

Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
     The Fletcher Fitness Center offers a wide variety of free weights, weight machines, classes and cardiovascular fitness equipment complete with cardio theater. The free programs at the center include personal training, classes, racquetball, microfit or body testing and incentive programs. The center offers educational seminars, 5K Fun Runs, and weight loss programs. Make an appointment with a trainer to discuss your fitness needs.
     The Base Gymnasium is open the same hours as the fitness center. The gym has a full size basketball court, outdoor tennis court, sauna, shower and locker rooms.
     Fletcher Fitness Center membership is free for all military, retirees, reservists, eligible family members with a military I.D. and DOD. There is a fee for DOD family members, contractors and family members of  contractors.

Gear Rental

     Gear Rental offers a large variety of outdoor recreation equipment. Summer boat rentals include canoes, kayaks, and boats with motors. MWR has trailers for all boats. Camping equipment, party equipment including tables and chairs are also available to rent. Winter sports equipment includes alpine and cross country ski equipment and snow boards. MWR has seven inflatable bounce houses for rent for children’s parties. All items can be rented by the day, weekend or week.

Information, Tickets & Travel (ITT)

     ITT offers discount tickets to the Museum of Science, New England Aquarium and IMAX in Boston, discount movie tickets to local movie theaters and has discount C&J bus tickets to Logan Airport and South Station, Boston. Check with ITT for great deals on area theater performances, concerts and seasonal sporting events. ITT offers discount tickets to area summer parks and east coast theme parks. Discount tickets for Disney, Seaworld, Universal and Busch Gardens are ordered every Wednesday. Discount ski lift tickets are available in the winter for Maine and New Hampshire mountains.

Jamaica Island

     Book Jamaica Island for the perfect waterfront party. MWR offers three pavilions, small, medium and large. The large pavilion comes equipped with electricity and a cooking area.

Liberty Center, Single Sailor Program

     The Liberty Center has two computer areas with internet, comfortable seating area, large flat screen plasma TVs, sports package from Comcast, WiFi for your personal pc, large selection of video games, and a snack and kitchen area.
     The Liberty program is for single and unaccompanied sailors and their guests.

Marinas

     MWR maintains two marina facilities at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Rental slips and moorings are available by the season to active duty, retired military and employees of the shipyard. The Sound Basin Marina has 75 slips and 62 deep water moorings. The Back Channel Marina has 27 slips and 23 deep water moorings. Both marinas offer a transient pier and pierside water.

OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL LODGING
Great Pond Outdoor Adventure Center in Great Pond, Maine

     This 375-acre reservation boasts excellent fishing, hiking, canoe and kayaking as well as magnificent scenic vistas. Reserve a cabin, yurt, RV campsite or campsite. Enjoy the Recreation Hall and rent from a large selection of outdoor recreation equipment.

Gull Cottage in Prospect Harbor, Maine

     Hidden in a picturesque fishing village is one of the Navy’s premier MWR assets, the Gull Cottage and lighthouse. The historical cottage comes fully furnished and is available to rent year round.

Relief Valve Recreation Center

     The center offers 10 computers with internet, TVs with video games, comfortable seating area, mini-movie theater, pool table, large flat screen plasma TV, reading room and ITT.

School Liaison

     The School Liaison Officer specializes in serving military families with assistance with inbound/outbound school transfers, information on local schools and the special education process, and many other concerns in choosing the right school.

Wood Hobby Shop

     Services include wood milling, custom woodcutting and turning, assembly of furniture, bikes, children’s toys, plus individual and group instruction.
