Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard develops a diverse, highly professional workforce. As supporters of the finest fighting force in the world, our most important element is the quality of the people we hire, develop and reward. They make us a better, stronger, more capable Shipyard.
We employ more than 1,400 General Service employees, including over 500 mechanical, civil, electrical, structural and nuclear engineers. We also employ more than 2,600 Wage Grade employees, including over 500 apprentices from a variety of trades. Our 400-plus uniformed personnel lend a sea warrior's perspective to everything we do, and are a key part of the Shipyard "Ohana".
EmploymentPearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is continuously looking for talented people to join the Shipyard "Ohana" (family). If you are interested in joining a winning team and gaining employment with us. To get more information on the employment, please visit.
Apprentice ProgramPearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) along with an accredited educational institution provides opportunities for selected trainees to work alongside journeymen, receive trade theory training and work toward a degree in Applied Trades.
This highly competitive program, known as the "Apprentice Program", is a four-year work/study program which prepares
students for careers in various industrial trades. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are normally
offered permanent positions in the Shipyard. Program graduates may be noncompetitively promoted to the journeyman-level.
PHNSY is the Navy's Regional Center for the maintenance and repair of naval vessels in the Hawaii region and the largest repair facility between the West Coast and Far East. It employs nearly 5,000 civilian employees and military personnel, and is the largest industrial employer in the State of Hawaii.
