Master Chief Collier enlisted in the United States Navy and attended Recruit Training in San Diego, Calif. in January 1985.
He reported to Deck Department on board USS SIERRA (AD 18) where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class before completing a follow-on sea tour on board USS FULTON (AS 11). While aboard USS Fulton, he advanced to BM1 and received his ESWS qualification.
In 1991 he returned to RTC Great Lakes as an RDC and advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 1993. Following his RDC tour, he served on sea duty on board the USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG 51) and was selected for Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate.
His next assignment was as a Navy Operational Test Director for Commander Operational Test and Evaluation Force. He was assigned to major programs including LPD 17, Mine Hunter Swath 1, and programs for Military Sealift Command. Upon completion of his tour, he reported to the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) as the Deck Departmental LCPO in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. While onboard, he completed his Enlisted Aviation Warfare qualification and was selected for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer in March of 2003.
In January of 2005, he was selected for the Command Master Chief Program, while assigned to Port Operations Mid Atlantic region, and completed tours as the CMC for USS SHREVEPORT (LPD 12) and ACU-2. He served aboard USS BATAAN (LHD5) as Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Collier’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other campaign and unit awards.
