Welcome Aboard NUWC Newport!

Welcome to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, the principal Navy research, development, test and evaluation center for submarine warfare and submarine weapons research. This command stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. The Division’s headquarters and largest site is located in Newport, Rhode Island, but we have remote Detachments located at Andros Island, Bahamas; West Palm Beach, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia; and Bangor, Washington.

Your tour will present an experience unique in your military career and will be an excellent opportunity for both personal and professional growth. The Newport, Rhode Island, team consists of approximately 2600 Department of Defense civilian employees, the majority of whom are scientists and engineers, 8 officers, 22 enlisted and over 2000 contractors. Your Navy training, experience and expertise offer a valuable adjunct to this community. You will be working with these highly competent personnel on a daily basis with the goal of delivering advanced Undersea Warfare related technology to the Fleet.

The Division's Vision is: UNDERSEA SUPERIORITY: TODAY AND TOMORROW. We provide the technical foundation that enables the conceptualization, research, development, fielding, modernization, and maintenance of systems that ensure our Navy's undersea superiority.

Newport is one of the smallest communities in size in the state. Nevertheless, in this small area are all the attractions you would find in a much larger vacation area such as salt-water beaches, excellent fishing and boating, golf courses, tennis courts, great restaurants and interesting scenic attractions. Many internationally known events are also held here such as the Newport Musical Festival, the Casino Tennis Tournaments and major sailing events.

Once again, “Welcome Aboard”. We look forward to your arrival.
Sincerely,

Todd W. Cramer
