Deputy Division Technical Director
Mr. Alan Kent was selected as Deputy Division Technical Director (DDTD) for
Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport in June 2013.
As DDTD, Mr. Kent supports the Division Technical Director in managing Keyport’s diverse portfolio including test and evaluation,
in-service engineering, maintenance and repair, fleet support and industrial base support for undersea warfare systems, undersea
weapon systems, countermeasures and sonar systems at the command’s sites in the U.S, Canada and Guam.
Prior to this selection, Mr. Kent served as the head of NUWC Keyport’s Corporate Resource, Planning and Customer Advocacy
Department where he was responsible for the overall management of all customer tasking. He supervised 13 Customer Advocates
who serve as Keyport’s program managers overseeing in excess of $450 million and 1,250 direct work-years in products and
services. Additionally, Mr. Kent was responsible for Keyport’s on-site representative program which provides customer
representation at more than 20 fleet and program office locations throughout the world.
From Feb. 2005 until Sept. 2012, Mr. Kent led the Maintenance, Engineering and Industrial Operations Department where his
duties included overall management of Keyport’s technical capabilities for maintenance and repair supporting undersea weapons/systems.
This responsibility included supervising 450 technical personnel including engineers, technicians, logisticians and trades personnel.
The department was tasked with torpedo intermediate maintenance and weapons and combat systems depot level repair as well as reverse
engineering and custom-engineered solutions. The department’s five divisions included operating sites in Hawthorne, Nev., and Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii. In addition, Mr. Kent has been a member of the command’s board of directors which addresses corporate decision-making
including strategic planning.
Mr. Kent began his government career in June of 1985 as an electronics engineer at NUWC Keyport’s predecessor, Naval Undersea Warfare
Engineering Station (NUWES), providing fleet support for lightweight torpedoes. Mr. Kent has been an integral part of Keyport’s three
technical line departments including a four-year tour at the Pearl Harbor detachment in the late 1990s. At Keyport, Mr. Kent has served
as a project engineer, first line supervisor, customer advocate and department head.
Mr. Kent is a1985 graduate of Gonzaga University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering.
He went on to earn a Masters of Public Administration degree from Indiana University in 1994.
