Our 140-year history is steeped in the tradition
of providing technology for the Fleet.
From our
modest beginnings of developing torpedoes and
experimenting with undersea acoustics, we have
expanded to become the world’s foremost USW
laboratory, with spheres of excellence in
multiple technology areas.
NUWC was established in 1992, consolidating
expertise from the Naval Undersea Warfare
Engineering Station (NUWES) in Keyport,
Washington and the Naval Underwater Systems
Center (NUSC) in Newport, Rhode Island.
