CDR David Joshua hails from Chicago, Illinois and is a 1982 graduate of Morehouse College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He attended U. S. Naval War College earning a Master’s degree in strategic studies, and additionally holds a master’s degree in Management from Salve Regina University. He is a graduate of Joint Forces Staff College.
As a surface warfare officer, he made numerous deployments aboard auxiliary and amphibious ships to include: USS SEATTLE (AOE-3), USS NASSAU (LHA-4), USS SAVANNAH (AOR-4), USS ESSEX (LHD 2) and USS RAINIER (AOE-7) where he served as Executive Officer. During CDR Joshua’s tour as XO, the ship was awarded the Battle Efficiency Award and other accolades for superior performance while deployed to the Arabian Gulf.
Ashore, he has served on Navy Europe Staff in London and the Navy Amphibious Staff in Okinawa. Early joint experience was at US Forces Japan in Yokota, Japan.
As the Curriculums Officer at SWOS, CDR Joshua contributed significantly to the overhaul of the Department Head course.
CDR Joshua just completed a tour as Chief Staff Officer, Military Sealift Command Detachment at US Transportation Command as the senior officer in the new Strategic Sealift Career Path. He reported aboard CDSA Dam Neck in June 2011 as the Chief Staff Officer.
CDR Joshua’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 awards), and various other unit and campaign awards.
