In November 2013, Captain Brian Durant assumed Command of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division following his tour as Deputy Program Manager for the STANDARD Missile Program Office (PEO IWS3A), from September 2010 to September 2013.
Captain Durant’s career began in 1992, first serving as Ordnance Officer, Main Propulsion and Damage Control Assistant aboard USS JARRETT (FFG 33).
During his EDO qualification tour, Captain Durant served as a Ship Superintendent, Type Desk Officer, and Command Docking Officer at Naval Ship Repair Facility, Yokosuka, Japan. In 2002, Captain Durant reported to SPAWAR 04F Afloat Installations as a Strike Group Manager responsible for all C4I modernization for Pacific Fleet ships including all of Seventh Fleet. From 2004-2006 he served as Assistant Program Manager, leading the ACAT IC Navy Multi-band Terminal (NMT) SATCOM Program.
Captain Durant then reported to INSURV as Senior C5 inspector from 2006-2008, conducting material inspections and new ship trials as well as being Trials Lead for LCS-1, LCS-2, and CVN-78. During this tour, he performed a 6-month Individual Augmentation tour as Deputy Engineer for CJTF HOA in Djibouti, Africa.
From August 2008 to December 2009, Captain Durant served as Technical Director for the Future Cruiser Program Office, CG(X) PMS 502, PEO Ships. In January 2010, he was detailed to serve as the Executive Assistant to the PEO for SHIPS, RADM Landay.
Captain Durant graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School earning a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Captain Durant’s awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various personal and unit citations and awards.
