NAVSEA Presented with the Meritorious Unit Commendation

NAVSEA Presented with the Meritorious Unit Commendation

The Secretary of the Navy has awarded the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) the Meritorious Unit Commendation. The Secretary of the Navy has awarded the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) the Meritorious Unit Commendation. ADM Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations’ citation commended NAVSEA for “setting the standard” and providing “exceptional oversight to shipbuilding, from correcting the root causes of significant quality issues on the LPD 17 Class to the development of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).” ADM Greenert also applauded NAVSEA’s readiness upgrades and improvements across the AEGIS spectrum. The citation recognized all NAVSEA personnel for their “truly distinctive accomplishments, unrelenting perseverance, and unfailing devotion to duty.”

In a 10 July 2013 memorandum sent to all field activities, VADM William Hilarides congratulated the entire NAVSEA workforce for their outstanding achievement and dedicated service to the Navy and the Nation, and thanked all for a “job well done.”

The Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation is awarded in the name of the Secretary of the Navy to units of both the U.S. Navy and United States Marine Corps. To be eligible for the award, the unit must have performed service of a character comparable to that which would merit the award of a Bronze Star Medal in a combat situation, or achievement of like caliber in a non-combat situation, to an individual.
