Buy Indiana Expo Facilitates Growth for Hoosier Businesses

l-r Duane Embree, NSWC Crane Technical Director, Mayor Shawna Girgis (Bedford), State Representative Eric Koch, Reggie Joslin, NSWC Crane Small Business Officer, State Representative Sandy Blanton & Adele Bowden-Purlee, President of Bedford Chamber of CommereceFrench Lick, Ind. --- Approximately 1,000 people attended the 14th Annual Buy Indiana Expo at the French Lick Resort Sports Complex Oct. 5, 2010.

Hosted by Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce, the Expo exceeded last year’s attendance record with 217 vendors exhibiting.

Buy Indiana Expo enables companies to showcase their products and services to NSWC Crane, which spends $1.4 billion doing business each year.

As one of Indiana’s largest employers, NSWC Crane is responsible for $500 million to the state’s economy each year. Through the Buy Indiana Initiative, the Warfare Center looks for opportunities to purchase from Indiana businesses whenever possible — companies from industrial to administrative fields can offer important services and products to NSWC Crane.

“NSWC Crane plays a major role in the defense business,” said NSWC Crane Technical Director Duane Embree. “It is important for us to buy locally and we want Hoosier businesses on our team. There is a lot of money available for Indiana and this Expo allows the opportunities to be recognized.”

Embree and NSWC Crane Small Business Deputy Reggie Joslin were present to welcome the exhibitors, visitors and more than 400 NSWC Crane employees who work in Mission Support Services, Acquisition and Extended Enterprise, Special Missions, Strategic Mission and Electronic Warfare/Information Operations.

Also in attendance were Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis, Indiana Representatives Sandy Blanton and Eric Koch.

“Thanks to NSWC Crane for their willingness to partner with small businesses. Their alliance is appreciated and greatly needed,” said Bedford Mayor Girgis.

In addition to NSWC Crane exposure and the business-to- business opportunities, the Expo also provided educational sessions for the vendors including workshops on “How to do business with NSWC Crane” and “Wide Area Workflow,” which detailed the process for invoicing federal contracts.
