NSWC Crane Welcomes Indiana Senators and Representatives
CRANE, Ind. -- Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) received a visit from several Indiana State Senators and Representatives July 6.
State Legislators visited to gain better understanding of NSWC Crane's technical capabilities, tour its three focus areas and learn more details about the work the Command does with the Department of Homeland Security.
Senators and Representatives that participated included: Senator James Merritt, Senator Thomas Wyss, Senator John Waterman, Representative Mark Messmer, Representative Sandy Blanton and Representative Matt Pierce. Local officials that participated included: Ron Arnold, Martin Mumaw and Mike Snyder of the Daviess County Economic Development, Ryan Asberry, Chad Pittman and Brook Steed of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and Shane Blair, vice president of Radius Indiana.
The legislators were greeted with a briefing from Commanding Officer Capt. Charles LaSota and Technical Director Duane Embree on the importance of NSWC Crane to both the nation and Indiana Hoosiers.
"The nation demands the best and NSWC Crane is recruiting, training and retaining the best," said Embree. "We are consistently growing and working with State officials to make sure the needs of the nation and Indiana are met."
NSWC Crane has a strong history of working with local and statewide officials to continue to thrive and meet the needs of Hoosiers.
"I am always awed at the leadership and outstanding facilities at Crane," said State Senator Thomas Wyss. "I am proud to say that Indiana is home to Crane and at the state-level, we will continue to make sure it is and will be supported."
Participants received a tour of the Special Missions Center and the Electronic Warfare/ Information Operation Center. They also had an opportunity to get hands-on experience in a weapon simulator in the Technology Assessment and Training Division.
"Having our State legislators understand and see the work we do here at Crane is crucial," said Pat McGlynn, extended enterprise division manager. "While a majority of what we do is at a national level, the amount of support we have from our state legislators is something that makes us unique and envied throughout the nation."
As one of the largest employers in Indiana, NSWC Crane plays a large part in the Hoosier economy.
"Crane is by far one of Indiana's most valuable assets," said State Representative Matt Pierce. "It never ceases to amaze me at everything Crane does, both at a national and international level to support the Warfighter. At the state-level, we are committed to making sure in the future that Crane and Indiana have a mutually beneficially economic relationship."
