What is NSWC Corona? Who are we looking for?

We are looking for engineers and scientists in different disciplines. No, you don’t have to enlist in the Navy to work for us! NSWC Corona consists mainly of civilian employees, although we do have a very small military representation at the facility.

Half way between San Diego and Los Angeles, NSWC Corona is located in the Inland Empire, an area that offers a surprising variety of recreational activities and entertainment . Within a short drive, you can enjoy the pleasures offered by the cool, blue Pacific Ocean or visit many of the Southland’s famous attractions, like Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. Nearby Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange Counties, are famous for their sights and fine restaurants. You can enjoy the warm desert areas or the mountains inviting you to ski, hike or just enjoy the surroundings. Housing is readily available in the surrounding communities of Norco, Corona, and Riverside, among many others. The NSWC Corona campus is a beautiful setting located in Norco, CA and is situated beside Lake Norconian which is home to a wide variety of migratory water fowl. Abundant (free) parking is available near all work sites. NSWC Corona also has personnel at various locations across the United States and around the World, including: Fallon, NV; Yuma, AZ; Cherry Point, NC; Beaufort, SC; Washington, D.C.; Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; Cairo, Egypt; and Crete, Greece.

Salary

Starting in November 1999, NSWC Corona implemented a new personnel demonstration project. This project includes several initiatives designed to enhance our ability to attract, develop and recognize high-performance employees. Starting salaries for professionals under the NSWC Corona demonstration project are:

iii. Potential promotion opportunitiesEngineering employees have promotion potential to the ND-04 level and are usually promoted in a timely manner. They are recognized and appropriately rewarded for good performance with promotions, bonuses, and permanent pay increases.

Training

Shortly after joining the team at NSWC Corona our new engineers at the ND-02 level, are enrolled in the Accelerated Promotion Program, making them eligible for their first promotion after completing 6 months of intensive formal and on-the-job training.In addition, throughout your career at NSWC Corona the following career enhancement tools are available to you:

1. On-the job training during working hours.
2. Tuition reimbursement for work-related courses.
3. Temporary changes in work schedule to accomodate class schedule.
4. Specialized short courses in technical and administrative fields offered by universities and industry.
5. Various Master’s programs offered on site.
6. Excellent universities within easy driving distance.

Job stability

NSWC Corona performs a unique and vital function for the defense of our country, and while no site is completely immune to government cutbacks, NSWC Corona is positioned well for the future.

Travel

Travel will usually be required in your job. This is a great opportunity to see other parts of the country (and sometimes the world) while working with top professionals in other locations.

Flexibility in work schedule

NSWC Corona offers their employees Flextime which allows flexible work schedules, as well as a compress work week that provides for every other Friday off by working 9 hours a day.

Time off

In addition to 10 paid federal holidays new employees earn 13 vacation, or annual leave, days a year, increasing to 20 days after 3 years and to 26 days a year after 15 years. Also, all employees earn an additional 13 days of sick leave per year.

Insurance

As an employee of the Federal Government, you will be eligible to be enrolled in the Federal Employee’s Health Benefits (FEHB) and the Federal Employee’s Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) programs.

Retirement

New employees are covered under the Federal Employee’s
Retirement System (FERS) and Social Security. The
Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is also available to employees
and allows them to contribute up to 10% of their salary into
their retirement fund with the government matching up to the first 5%.

NSWC Corona maintains nine distinct, inherently governmental, engineering capabilities. These are:

• Tactical Training Range Engineering
• Quality Engineering; Readiness Assessment
• Test Systems Assessment
• Metrology Systems Engineering
• Interface Assessment
• Information Systems Engineering

The work assignments at NSWC Corona are interesting and are both worthwhile and essential to the Department of Defense. The work provides the following opportunities and benefits:
