PORT HUENEME, Calif. - Tomahawk Weapon System engineers from Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Port Hueneme supported USS Farragut's (DDG 99) first successful operational test launch of the Tomahawk Weapon System Aug. 25.
The operational test launch program is a Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) directive, that was implemented to ensure modifications and upgrades to the Tomahawk Weapon System are verified to guarantee performance, accuracy and reliability meet operational requirements and thresholds.
"This launch was intended to demonstrate the capability of the Tomahawk Weapon System to meet its prescribed guidance and target objectives," said Marcos Gonzalez, NSWC Port Hueneme test engineer.
This flight test demonstrated the changes in the new missile configuration were working together and were integrated with the ship's combat system. Successful testing allows all participating organizations, including NSWC Port Hueneme, to deliver a combat-ready missile to the future fleet.
Testing weapon system and missile capabilities allows NSWC Port Hueneme, a field activity of the Naval Sea Systems Command, to verify future technologies that maximize warfighter capabilities and increase readiness, which supports the nation's maritime strategy.
