NOV05-02: NUWC Keyport Recognized in Top 5 DoD Program Awards for 2008
From Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport Public Affairs

KEYPORT, Wash. - The Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Defense Industrial Association recognized Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Keyport in San Diego Oct. 28 as a 2008 Top 5 DoD Program Award.

NUWC Keyport was recognized for their collaboration with Raytheon Integrated Development Systems, and Paladin Data Systems on the Aviation Maintenance Training Continuum System (AMTCS) in the development of the Advanced Skills Management Version 3 (ASM v3) software. Naval Air Systems Command's Aviation Training Systems (PMA 205) sponsored the 2.5-year, $10 million development project.

"Our primary goal was to provide an application more robust, stable, and economical than the previous version while making it easier to use for the tens of thousands of aviation maintenance personnel currently using ASM v2," said Mark Mitchell, NUWC Keyport, AMTCS technical lead. "ASM v3 exceeds the goals, and we're pleased to deliver a product with such wide applicability to the Navy and DoD."

ASM provides an easy-to-use Web-based interface for Navy and Marine Corps aviation personnel to set-up complex training plans. These plans are required for individuals to attain the qualifications, certifications and licenses needed to achieve unit readiness for tasking goals and for individual career development. A major objective accomplished with v3 is providing a centralized hosting of the ASM application and its data in a single instance and database, while retaining all essential current end-user functions, maintaining security, and the look and feel of v2.

The system was deployed to all P-3C Orion aircraft squadrons in September, and is being followed by all remaining Navy and Marine Corps aviation squadrons and organizational maintenance activities.

In addition to being used throughout the Navy and Marine Corps aviation communities, ASM is used by the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command and the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Professional Development Center. It is also used to manage qualifications at the NUWC Keyport Heavyweight and Lightweight IMA, Torpedo Depot and the Heavyweight Torpedo IMA at Pearl Harbor. ASM has also been selected for use by the Littoral Combat Ship program and the Marine Corps Aviation Ordnance community.
