ASNE 2009 Engineer and Project of the Year Awards By
Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Command Communications
SIMI VALLEY, CALIF. - The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE)
recognized Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Port Hueneme engineers Feb.
19 as ASNE 2009 Engineer and Project of the Year awards in Simi Valley,
Calif. Both of the awards highlight significant engineering
accomplishments for the current and future Navy. The Engineer of the
Year Award went to NSWC Port Hueneme engineer, Terry Robinson, for his work
as the project lead of the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) Desert Ship
Upgrade project. The Project of the Year Award went to Robinson and
his entire team for the Desert Ship upgrade project. The upgrade completion
by NSWC Port Hueneme, a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command,
provides for significant future fleet testing of next-generation weaponry.
"The Desert Ship Upgrade project represents a significant milestone in
transitioning from the capability to support missile-only tests to the
capability of supporting next-generation, "system of systems" and "family of
systems" testing," said Robinson.
