By Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Command Communications

SIMI VALLEY, CALIF. - The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) recognized Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Port Hueneme engineers Feb. 19 as ASNE 2009 Engineer and Project of the Year awards in Simi Valley, Calif.

Both of the awards highlight significant engineering accomplishments for the current and future Navy.

The Engineer of the Year Award went to NSWC Port Hueneme engineer, Terry Robinson, for his work as the project lead of the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) Desert Ship Upgrade project.

The Project of the Year Award went to Robinson and his entire team for the Desert Ship upgrade project.  The upgrade completion by NSWC Port Hueneme, a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command, provides for significant future fleet testing of next-generation weaponry.

"The Desert Ship Upgrade project represents a significant milestone in transitioning from the capability to support missile-only tests to the capability of supporting next-generation, "system of systems" and "family of systems" testing," said Robinson.
