NSWC Crane Hosts Surface Electro-Optics/Infrared (EO/IR) Standards Profile Review

CRANE, Ind. - July 11, 2017 - Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) hosted a Surface Electro-Optics/Infrared (EO/IR) Standards Profile Review in collaboration with Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Surface EO/IR Technical Warrant Holder from 9-10 May. The event was a follow-up to the NAVSEA EO/IR Modular Open Systems Approach/Architecture (MOSA) Technical Exchange Meeting, which was hosted by NSWC Crane in June 2016 and established the technical direction for the standards review.

The change of command took place in front of the Shipyard Headquarters Building on Friday, July 7, 2017.

NSWC Dahlgren Division Wins Award for Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Contracts

DAHLGREN, Va. (July 7, 2017) – Kris Parker, Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) deputy for small business, is inspired by a quote – written on his whiteboard in the background – spoken by Sir Michael Gambon in Matthew Vaughn's Layer Cake: "The art of good business is being a good middleman". Parker is holding the Department of the Navy Office of Small Business Program Award for NSWCDD’s first-time achievement of a statutory small business goal – three percent of total contracted dollars to service disabled veteran owned small businesses.

NSWC Crane Team Recognized by U.S. Secretary of Defense for Producing $31.2 Million in Cost Savings

The work of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane)'s AN/SLQ-32(V) Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite Performance Based Logistics (PBL) team resulted in a total cost savings of $31.2 million and $1.3 million in annual cost avoidance. This team was named the 2016 Secretary of Defense PBL award winner for the Component Level Award category.

Navy Mentors Get Middle School Students Excited about STEM and Internship Programs

KING GEORGE. Va. (June 28, 2017) - Middle school students use remote-controlled models to solve simulated naval robotic missions at the 2017 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division sponsored STEM Summer Academy, held June 26-30. Camp activities included ten robotic challenges; building a water rocket and determining the optimal fuel loading to maximize height; exploring epidemiology; building and destructively testing a tower from balsa wood with the goal of maximizing the strength to weight ratio; predicting the number of each color of M&Ms in a large bag after compiling statistics on numbers in smaller bags; and building a boat out of foil and straws with the aim of maximizing its cargo carrying capacity.

USS Portland (LPD 27) Successfully Completes Builder's Trials

The amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27) conducts its first set of sea trials in the Gulf of Mexico. Ingalls' test and trials team spent four days operating the 11th San Antonio-class ship and demonstrating its systems.
