WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. - Cmdr. Jeffery Lock relieved Capt. John Robinson as Commanding Officer, Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC), during a ceremony here July 8.
The ceremony, which took place at NASA Wallops Flight Facility, honored this occasion by having Surface Combat Systems Center's Color Guard and Sideboys rendering honors. The honored guest was Rear Adm. Jon Hill, Program Executive Officer for Integrated Warfare Systems (IWS).
"I could not have handpicked a more capable officer to lead this incredible team at Surface Combat Systems Center," said Hill. "On behalf of Team IWS, we are delighted to have you, Commander Lock, as part of our IWS family. We look forward to benefiting from your expertise and we wish you the best of success."
Originally from Florence, Colo., Lock enlisted in the Navy in 1983. His initial sea assignments were on board USS Robison (DDG 12), USS Halsey (CG 23), USS Fox (CG 33), and USS Gary (FFG 51). Lock graduated with honors from Hawaii Pacific University with a degree in Computer Science and was commissioned March 1998 as a Limited Duty Officer. In 2001, he was selected for Engineering Duty Officer and earned a Masters of Science degree in Computer Science, and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Lock served at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division as Project Officer/Combat System Ship Qualification Trials Project Officer before being assigned to Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Program Office and then the Arleigh Burke Shipbuilding Program Office as the branch head for Combat Systems. He was assigned to PEO IWS 1.0 where he led in-service efforts to maintain the Aegis Weapon System. Most recently Lock served on the Chief of Naval Operations staff as the Aegis Combat Systems Branch Head.
Robinson transfers to his alma mater, the United States Naval Academy as the Director of Engineering.
The Surface Combat Systems Center is a unique shore installation that provides the maritime and littoral environment, operational team, high-fidelity combat systems and platform sensors, along with the ability to connect with ships, aircraft, and other land-based sites for Surface Navy testing, training, and support of deployed surface combat systems, advanced systems under development, warfare systems integration, interoperability, and at-sea testing and exercises.
