PSNS & IMF Sailors support Coast Guard in the Arctic

Six Sailors from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility's Dive Division are deployed aboard a Coast Guard cutter to support the Coast Guard's first Artic dive operations since two of its divers perished in a subsurface accident almost 11 years ago.

The PSNS & IMF Sailors are providing a recompression team with chamber to Coast Guard divers aboard the USCGC Healy, a 420-foot long medium icebreaker with extensive scientific capabilities, homeported in Seattle. Healy is the nation’s premier high-latitude research vessel. Its missions include scientific support, search and rescue, ship escort, environmental protection and the enforcement of laws and treaties in the Polar Regions.

During the deployment, the PSNS & IMF Sailors are also conducting training with the Coast Guard team and assisting in the search for a fishing vessel lost at sea in February.
