By PEO LCS Public Affairs

WASHINGTON -- Rear Adm. John P. Neagley relieved Rear Adm. Brian K. Antonio as program executive officer for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program during a change of office ceremony May 10 at the Washington Navy Yard.

Neagley reports to Program Executive Office (PEO) LCS after serving most recently as deputy commander, Fleet Readiness, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. Over his 34-year career, Neagley has served in a wide variety of assignments at sea and ashore.

While at sea, Neagley served on USS Whipple (FF 1062), USS Coral Sea (CV 43), USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), and as executive officer on USS Antietam (CG 54), where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf and participated in Operation Desert Fox with the Carl Vinson Battle Group. He subsequently served as chief staff officer with Destroyer Squadron 21 and deployed with the Sea Combat Commander to the Arabian Gulf with the John C. Stennis Battle Group. He assumed command of USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) in 2001 and led her combat deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom in 2003.

Ashore, Neagley reported to Future Ships Branch in 2003 in the Pentagon where he served as the lead requirements officer for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Program. In 2005, Neagley reported to the LCS Program Office as the principal assistant program manager and director of sustainment. From 2009 to 2011, Neagley served as the program manager for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)/CREW where he fielded EOD and counter Improvised Explosive Device systems to Iraq and Afghanistan. He was selected as the executive assistant to Naval Sea Systems Command in June 2011 and returned to the LCS program office as program manager in March 2012. In September 2012, Neagley assumed duties as Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command deputy commander, Fleet Readiness.

Neagley is a 1982 graduate of the University of New Hampshire and received his commission from Officer Candidate School in 1984. He holds a master's degree in Environmental Management from Duke University, a Master of Science degree in Financial Management from the Naval Post Graduate School and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval Command and Staff College.

Antonio, who has led PEO LCS since September 2013, will report to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition while awaiting further assignment by the Chief of Naval Operations.

LCS is a modular, reconfigurable ship, with three types of mission packages including surface warfare, mine countermeasures, and anti-submarine warfare. The Program Executive Office Littoral Combat Ships is responsible for delivering and sustaining littoral mission capabilities to the fleet. Delivering high-quality warfighting assets while balancing affordability and capability is key to supporting the nation's maritime strategy.
