Leighton said he decided to try his hand at a leadership role within PSNS & IMF because "I kept finding myself answering more questions than I was asking." Keel Authenticated for Future USNS Lucy Stone

The keel for the future USNS Lucy Stone (T-AO 209), the Navy’s 5th John Lewis-class fleet replenishment oiler, was laid at General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company’s (GD NASSCO) shipyard in San Diego, August 8. Program Executive Officer Ships, RADM Tom Anderson, ship sponsors, Alicia Aadensen and Debbie Simmons and General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company artisans, Fausto Cruz and Jesus Quevado, who welded the sponsor initials into the keel plate, were part of the ceremony.

A student with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division’s (NSWC IHD) Naval Energetics Technology Apprenticeship Program (NETAP) prepares their underwater remotely operated vehicle for her group’s scenario at Naval Support Facility Indian Head, July 28. NETAP provides students an opportunity to engage in a hands-on internship allowing them to develop their engineering skills. Over the course of the program, students learned and improved upon their tooling, soldering and programming skills by building miniature unmanned underwater vehicles

NSWC Crane leads Silent Swarm electromagnetic spectrum experimentation event

ALPENA, Mich. – Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) led Silent Swarm 2023, a two-week experimentation event to further develop early-stage Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) capabilities. Silent Swarm 2023 was sponsored by the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Integrated Sensing and Cyber office (OUSD R&E IS&C). The event was executed July 9-21 in Alpena, Michigan at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center (NADWC).
