West Bethesda, MD - Miguel Angel Garcia (left), a Spanish Armada functionary; Milton Perez-Cruz (center), a mechanical engineer from Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division; and David Sanchez, a Spanish Armada engineer, assemble face shields produced in their additive manufacturing lab at the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center Detachment Rota, Spain, in April 2020 for use at local hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the frames themselves are printed from the Ultimaker S5 3D printer, every full-face shield is put together by hand and inspected by the lab workers prior to distribution.
