CDR Zachary D. Harry Sr., USN

Executive Officer, Trident Refit Facility Bangor

A native of Angie, Louisiana, CDR Zach Harry enlisted in the United States Navy nuclear propulsion program in November 1990 as a Nuclear Machinist’s Mate.  After completing the initial training including boot camp, "A" school, Nuclear Power School, he graduated from Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) S5W Prototype, Charleston, SC.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State University and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Southern University.

His enlisted assignments include aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) where he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare.  He was also assigned to USS EMORY S. LAND (AS 39) and completed a follow-on tour onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).  In July 2000, he reported for instructor duty at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command where he earned the rank of MMC(SW).

In January 2003, he was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer.  His first assignment was USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) where he served as Quality Assurance Officer (QAO) and Main Propulsion Technical Assistant where he earned his Officer of the Deck and Surface Warfare Officer qualifications.  Other sea assignments include USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as Electrical Officer; USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) as Reactor Mechanical; submarine tender USS EMORY S. LAND (AS 39) as Production Management Assistant (PMA)/Project Superintendent.

Ashore, he served at Moored Training Ship (MTS 635) as Maintenance Officer (MAO) and Quality Assurance Officer; ARCO (ARDM 5) as Commanding Officer from May 2016 – July 2018;  Portsmouth Naval Shipyard San Diego Detachment, Kittery, ME as PMA.

He assumed duties as the Chief Engineer onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) in November 2019.

Commander Harry’s awards include Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit commendations, campaign awards and service ribbons.  He is married to Marilyn Harry.  They have four adult children, Robert, Rachel, Ruby, and Zachary Jr.
