Captain Joseph Tuite, USN

Commanding Officer, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair, Bath, ME

Capt. Joseph Tuite was born and raised in Kearny, N.J. He is a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School and holds his professional engineer’s license in mechanical engineering.


Tuite’s tours as a surface warfare officer include main propulsion assistant on USS Jouett (CG 29) and USS Harper’s Ferry (LSD 49).

Tuite was selected for transfer to the engineering duty officer community in April 1998. He subsequently completed tours at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, U.S. Naval Academy, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) Gulf Coast, Large Deck Amphibious Program Office (PMS 377), and U.S. Special Operations Command Headquarters in the Combatant Craft Program Office.

In February 2010, Tuite reported to SUPSHIP Gulf Coast as LPD Program Manager’s Representative (PMR). While PMR, Tuite oversaw the delivery of LPDs 22 and 23 and the launch of LPDs 24 and 25. He became SUPSHIP Gulf Coast’s executive officer in August 2012, and assumed command in March 2014. During his tour as commanding officer, he worked with numerous shipbuilders to successfully deliver 15 ships to the U.S. Navy.

In May 2017, Tuite became the commanding officer of SUPSHIP Bath in Bath, Maine. Tuite’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards) and various other naval campaign, unit, and service medals.
