Tool Kits

Tool Kits

Five distinct tool kits have been developed for particular maintenance functions.  The kits support maintenance of light duty single fiber connectors (SC, LC and ST types), heavy-duty multi-fiber connectors and FDDI connectors.

These kits are identified on the following NAVSEA drawings:

a. NAVSEA Drawing 6872811 - NSN 5180-01-416-0565 - SC and ST type connectors
b. NAVSEA Drawing 6872813 -
NSN 5180-01-416-0567 - heavy-duty multi-fiber connector
c. NAVSEA Drawing 7085185 - 
NSN 5180-01-494-7433SC, ST and heavy-duty multi-fiber connectors (submarine use)
d. NSN 6080-01-431-0614 - FDDI connector (supplement for 6872811 kits)
e. NSN 6080-01-475-0221 - SC connector (supplement for 6872811 kits manufactured before 11/1999)

These kits are available through NAVICP Mechanicsburg.


NAVSEA Drawings

The NAVSEA Drawings for tool kits define the recommended tools for terminating fiber optic cable with various types of shipboard connectors and splices.

Polishing pucks, polishing paper, etc.; when used properly and done in accordance with MIL-STD-2042; will provide connector end face polishes with optical loss and return loss (single mode only) values as specified in the component specifications (or as listed in MIL-STD-2042).
