Pierside

The following detailed descriptions are also intended to assist in the implementation of Fiber Optic Pierside Connectivity.

CID A-A-XX159 (23 pgs., 598k)
Title: Fiber Optic Connectors, Hermaphroditic, Multiple Removable Termini
Scope: This CID covers circular, hermaphroditic style, multiple removable termini, fiber optic connectors and dust covers. This hermaphroditic style connector is intended for use in concatenation as opposed to point-to-point applications. The removable termini that are compatible with the connector types in this CID must be procured separately using CID A-A-XX160 (SEE BELOW) A hermaphroditic connector is one in which cable plugs are able to intermate with one another. The cable plug and jam nut mounted receptacle are the two connector styles addressed in this specification. The jam nut mounted receptacle itself is not hermaphroditic, is used at the interconnection box or panel, and is designed to mate with a cable plug in the forward position (female threads exposed). The cable plug is hermaphroditic, mates with the jam nut mounted receptacle when the cable plug is in the forward position, and is used to concatenate umbilical cable assemblies when one cable plug is in the forward position and the mating cable plug is in the back position (male threads exposed).

CID A-A-XX160 (12 pgs., 147k)
Title: Removable Termini For Multiple Termini Fiber Optic Connectors
Scope: This CID covers multiple removable pin termini and socket termini which are required for circular, plug and receptacle style, fiber optic connectors respectively. The connector plugs and receptacles that are compatible with the termini types in this CID must be procured separately using CID A-A-XX159 (SEE ABOVE).

CID A-A-XX161 (20 pgs., 133k)
Title: Cable, Fiber Optic, Pierside Use Only (Not For Inboard Or Outboard Use), 12 Breakout Cable Count, Multiple Classes (Single Mode, Multimode, Fiber-Hybrid)
Scope: This CID covers fiber optic, multifiber cable for pierside umbilical cable applications only. Frequent handling and various type outboard exposures are expected to limit this cable to a 2 to 5 year useful life. The cable dimensions are compatible with connector and termini that are procured separately under CID A-A-XX159 (SEE ABOVE) and CID A-A-XX160 (SEE ABOVE), respectively.

Blown Optical Fiber  Return to top of page...

The following CIDs are designed to assist in the implementation of blown optical fiber applications.

CID A-A-59728 (5 pg s., 15k)
Title: Plug, Tube Fitting, Blown Optical Fiber
Scope: This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the requirements for a tube fitting plug (TFP) which is used with a tube fitting / tube coupler to seal the ends of empty blown optical fiber (BOF) tubes in tube routing boxes, fiber optic interconnection boxes and equipment, or is used to seal an unused port of a tube tee.

CID A-A-59729 (8 pg s., 38k)
Title: Furcation Units, Tube, Blown Optical Fiber
Scope: This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the general requirements for blown optical fiber (BOF) tube furcation units (TFUs) that separate either individual BOF fibers or fiber bundles within a BOF tube into individual single fiber cables that may be terminated using traditional single fiber optic connectors and termination techniques. These furcation units are designed for use in shipboard equipment and enclosures.

CID A-A-59730 (5 pg s., 15k)
Title: Plugs, Tapered Tube, Blown Optical Fiber
Scope: This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the requirements for a tapered tube plug (TTP) which is used within a Blown Optical Fiber (BOF) tube to prevent movement of the BOF fibers or BOF bundles.

CID A-A-59731 Rev B <8 pgs., 24k)
Title: Tube Fittings, Blown Optical Fiber
Scope: This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the general requirements for blown optical fiber (BOF) tube fittings (straight tube couplers, tee tube couplers and end caps) that are used to join together two or more BOF tubes or to terminate a single BOF tube. These tube fittings are designed for use in shipboard equipment and enclosures.

Fusion Splice Kit  Return to top of page...

The following CID is designed to assist with the implementation of fusion splice applications.

CID A-A-59799 (10 pgs., 126.6 kb)
Title: Fusion Splicer and Cleaver, Optical Fiber
Scope: This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the general requirements for an optical fiber fusion splicer and an optical fiber cleaver. The optical fiber fusion splicer and optical fiber cleaver are intended for commercial/industrial applications.

Mechanical Splice  Return to top of page...

The following CID is designed to assist with the implementation of mechanical splice applications.
