lifting and handling DEPARTMENT

Mission:  Provide reliable Weight Handling Operations in support of our nation’s strategic fighting force by conducting professional, safe, lifting and handling operations with the goal of achieving zero pinnacle crane or rigging events.

Vision:  To become the number one lifting and handling department in the US Navy.

 

what we do

Department Head

  • Management of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) operations, as well as certified training and licensing for: Category 1 (CAT-1), Category 3 (CAT-3), Material Handling Equipment (MHE), and Aerial Work Platform (AWP).
  • Oversight of daily operations of TRFB crane and rigging functions to ensure all program requirements are met.
     

Crane Operations

  • Authorities on crane operations, schedules interactions between production crane support, scheduled maintenance and outages, provides regional crane support.
  • The Crane Operations General Foreman also serves as the code Explosives Program Manager.
     

Rigging Operations

  • Authorities on rigging, crane operations, weight testing, and docking support to ensure safe, damage-free handling of shipboard equipment, material, and components.

Weight Test

  • Plan, manufacture, repair, install, assembles, test and certify weight handling equipment for use by the command, tended units at TRFB, and various other shore based commands.
  • Select safe method for attaching the hoisting equipment necessary to test the weight lifting and handling equipment.

 

Accident Prevention

  • The Accident Prevention Program improves the safety of Crane & Rigging Operations by identifying deficiencies in our equipment, processes, and operations.
  • The program ensures compliance with all local and Navy-wide policies through continuing surveillance/monitoring, mentoring and providing just in time training.
