QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICERS COURSE

The Quality Assurance Officers Course (QAOC) teaches Quality Assurance Officers (QAO) and other students from Submarines, Nuclear Aircraft Carriers, and Shore Base Facilities those skills needed to ensure requirements for nuclear repairs are met. The course orients students in the responsibilities of nuclear planners and provides a common knowledge base for better interaction between the Nuclear Propulsion Plant Planner and the Quality Assurance Officer. Although this school does not eliminate the need for command qualification programs, it does improve initial performance and reduces time needed for initial qualification.

PROPULSION PLANT TRADE SKILLS COURSE

The Propulsion Plant Trade Skills Course (PPTSC) was established to produce personnel who can safely and efficiently perform maintenance on secondary and steam plant systems using the appropriate work practices. We will accomplish this goal by exposing the students to many technical requirements for propulsion plant maintenance and repair. In addition to technical requirements, we will also introduce the student to many trade skill techniques - actions which are not requirements, but are proven ways to accomplish a given task factoring in the combination of technical, cleanliness, material, and objective quality requirements.

This course will take the student through the individual basic skills of system repair work such as quality control, cleanliness and precision measuring. These basic skills are then combined into integrated tasks in steam plant valve repair including packing replacement and mechanical joint disassembly/reassembly. These tasks present techniques applicable to both the submarine and the surface fleet. An additional week may be added to the course curricula, as requested by Type Commanders, to include pipe cutting, weld joint design, weld joint preparation and fit-up.
