CURV 21

CURV-21 is a 6,400-pound Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that is designed to meet the US Navy's deep ocean salvage requirements down to a maximum depth of 20,000 feet of seawater. This vehicle is loaded with a host of new technologies and was built as a direct replacement for CURV-III but with a smaller overall system footprint.

ORION and CURV-21 can be combined into a single integrated search & recovery system capable of being deployed on a USNS T-ATF. The system is based on a .680 fiber-optic umbilical cable and a shared handling system that can switch at sea between side-scan sonar and ROV operations. The system is self-contained and fly-away transportable for world wide response on vessels of opportunity.

The ROV can be controlled in all six degrees of motion with auto-control functions for depth, altitude, and heading. An integrated DVL allows 1 and 2 meter incremental movements as well as cruise control for extended axial movements. The vehicle is equipped with CTFM sonar for target location and pinger detection. The ROV uses two seven function rate manipulators. It has a high-resolution digital still camera, black and white, and color television cameras. The system includes a load bearing, pressure compensated, Electro-Optical Umbilical Swivel.

The fiber optic multi-plex system can combine up to eight channels of video, sonar, USBL, RS-232/422/485 data communications, and navigation data on a single fiber. 2 spare fibers are available subsea for additional sensors. A digital communications network with a data capacity of 400 MHz controls the vehicle and has significant capacity for future expansion. The system is designed to interface easily with additional sensors or tool packages using standard data formats.

For special operations, the ROV can accommodate customized tool packages. These packages can include, but are not limited to specialized salvage tools, instrument packages, or other mission-oriented equipment.

MR2 HYDROS

HYDROS is a 2,000-pound Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that is designed to meet the Navy’s shallow water, light weight, rapid deployable salvage requirements to a maximum depth of 5,000 feet anywhere in the world.

The system is air transportable and can operate from a wide variety of vessels-of-opportunity (VOO). The vehicle is an all hydraulic design with a programmable logic controller (PLC) architecture.

The ROV system was designed around two different configurations. The light weight, low-volume configuration is limited to 1,000-fsw and able to fit on a small VOO such as a harbor tug, oceanographic vessel, or commercial fishing boat. The second heavy configuration is a fully self-sufficient standalone system capable of 5,000-fsw with complete deck gear to include traditional control vans, a launch and recovery handling system, and all support equipment.

The operator can control the ROV in all six degrees of motion manually and with traditional auto-control functions for depth, altitude, heading, and speed over ground. Additionally, the control system has an ROV dynamic positioning capability allowing the vehicle to fly via computer instruction allowing hands-free position keeping, auto-translate movement, follow pre-programmed  routes and go to posit functions .

The vehicle is equipped with sonars that can detect acoustic pingers and identify small targets to a distance of 1,000-feet. HYDROS uses an electro-hydraulic power pack for thrusters and all tooling functions.  It has two five function manipulators capable of working with tools and attaching rigging up to 100lbs. For imaging the vehicle has a HD Pan and Tilt Video Camera and LED lighting. For special operations the ROV can accommodate custom skid-mounted tool packages and other sensor suites.

SUPSALV MINIROVs

The three MINI-ROVs are standard commercial Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) used to meet the Navy’s requirements down to a maximum depth of 1,000 feet.

The systems typically consist of the vehicle, umbilical cable, handling system, generator and operations/ maintenance van. Navigation is accomplished with an ultra-short baseline acoustic tracking system. Generators can provide 120-vac power for the systems if an alternate source is not available. A handling system is available for the larger, open frame vehicle (MRII). It is a compact, folding knuckle boom crane. The operator controls the ROVs in all six degrees of motion with auto-control functions for depth, altitude, and heading. The vehicles are equipped with a high resolution imaging sonar and MINI ROV, MR-2 have a manipulator capable of working with simple tools. They have a 35mm still camera and a color video camera. For special operations MRII can accommodate some small tools or instrument packages. The systems are air transportable and can operate from any capable platform of opportunity.
