Visitor Information:

Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) is located at NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The area surrounding our base is very rural, composed of a quiet and friendly community. SCSC is composed of military, civil service, and contractor personnel. Our base atmosphere is friendly and our highly complex facility is well-regarded for its efficiency, customer service, and operational commitments.

Driving Directions:

Directions from the Washington, D.C., area: Take U.S. Route 50 East to Salisbury, Md. From Salisbury take U.S. Route 13 South for 36 miles. After the Maryland/Virginia line, turn left on Route 175, which is Chincoteague Road. After 3.8 miles on Chincoteague Road, take a left at the stoplight onto Atlantic Road. After seven-tenths of a mile, the Surface Combat Systems Center main gate is on the right.

Directions from the South (Norfolk) (Instead: Hampton Roads area): Cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and travel North on U.S. Route 13 for 65 miles. Turn right on Route 175, which is Chincoteague Road. After 3.8 miles on Chincoteague Road, take a left at the stoplight onto Atlantic Road. After seven tenths of a mile, the Surface Combat Systems Center main gate is on the right.

Points of Interest and Area Attractions:

There is a Navy Exchange convenience store located at the SCSC Aegis Engineering and Training complex with hours of operation 0700–1630, Monday – Friday.

Chincoteague Island has many shops, restaurants, hotels, and motels.

Assateague Island is a barrier island that protects Chincoteague Island from the Atlantic Ocean. The Assateague Island National Seashore and the Chincoteague Island National Wildlife Refuge offer miles of unspoiled beaches and a variety of outdoor recreational activities.

To get to Chincoteague Island, drive east on Route 175, Chincoteague Road, for seven miles. To get to Assateague Island, stay straight after reaching the island.

There is a NASA Visitor Center on Route 175 on the way to Chincoteague and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00am - 4:00pm and admission is free.

Visit www.chincoteaguechamber.com for many other area attractions such as the Chincoteague Pony Swim, deep-sea fishing charters, boat tours, golf, and seasonal hunting.

Ocean City, Md., is also located approximately 37 miles north.

Visit Requests:
At least 10 days prior to your planned visit submit a DISS visit request via SMO code N455346. On the request, you must include your Surface Combat Systems Center point of contact name and phone number, purpose of visit, and length of visit. On the day of the visit, report to Building R10 to have CAC encoded for access and/or meet your point of contact. If you do not have a clearance, you are required to be escorted by a cleared person. After R10, proceed to N-127 to pick up NASA visitor badge.
